June News: Melodrama Canceled for ‘09

Here’s the latest from Patty:

You have probably noticed that work has continued at the schoolhouse this spring.  Now is a good time to peek in the windows.  See it now, at its worst, to appreciate the full scope of the project.  You can see different eras uncovered.  There are several colors of paint on the walls.  The original floor will be removed this week.  The soil under the floors will be removed on Saturday June 13.  The bucket brigade begins at 10 am. You are invited to join us.

The shingles have been removed from the addition, or cloakroom.  Sheathing has been purchased and will be installed for us.  Elver Robbins has been searching for shingles and pricing them.  We will re-roof the addition on June 20th.  Please call Genia at 303-663-8792, or Patty at 303-688-8357 for times.

Our contractor has been doing a great job of holding costs down.  Rock will be purchased this week, and we hope the excavation behind the building will begin very soon.

Genia has been holding the work schedules together these last weeks.  Meetings are still held on Tuesday mornings at the schoolhouse or at the Pine Nook Mountain Market.  Our contractor tells me that he is impressed with the interest shown by community members. They are asking good questions and offering good suggestions.  Thank you to those that are stepping forward to see this project through.  You have all waited a long time to see this happen.

There will be no melodrama this year. Though the cast was willing, there was no leadership.  I am solely to blame.  Perhaps later this year, we will try to form a melodrama committee.

One thing is certain, the cast and crew of the melodrama gave their hearts to the effort.  We have them to thank for the work that goes on at the schoolhouse now.

There will be a picnic on the Fourth of July, but at this time, we don’t know if we will celebrate the 125 year anniversary then.

I’ll mention the Sprucewood yard sale, which will be held on the 20th of June.  Plan to take unsold stuff home.
